of chris christie could affect the hillary clinton campaign? >> the 2000 campaign was a very effective one. i was an intern on that campaign and did a heck of a job fetching coffee and answering phones. but in all seriousness, it's a great comparison from that race to this one. she didn't go in there thinking she was a given to win the senate seat. she went in as a total novice, introduced herself to voters, got her hands dirty. something that she was accused of not doing in 2008. the reason it's really important for the clinton campaign to take that approach this time around is because you look at shaquille o'neal who hardly ever weighs into politics but he did endorsing chris christie, a republican. an overwhelming majority of black voters supported barack obama. but in my 2008 "party crashing," plugging that, 35% of black voters ages 18 to 24 actually identify as independent, thomas. so while they are obama loyalists, many of them, they're not necessarily kem contract party loyalists and president obama slipped in the double digits between 2008 and 2012 among black men in part because o
, chris christie, kasic or martinez, you can name a few that are in states that president obama won, but they have high approval ratings and they know what it means to work with democrats to compromise and the most recent obviously shaquille o'neal endorsement of chris christie. this is where the party should be looking to move forward. >> chris christie has been talking about bipartisanship a lot and doesn't want to be caught in the type of conflict in washington over and over again. if he wants to run for president is another matter because obviously there's a reason why everyone in washington is at each other's throats, it's politically beneficial. >> you write about a deeper point in your column, with the middle class nur dur res and inequality rising, they offer tax cuts for the wealthy and reduced subsidies, does the republican philosophy sort of fundamentally not match the problems of our time? >> i'm not sure if the philosophy, it's seems to be the practice more. you have two wings of the republican party. one wing wants to going ba to the 1980s and ronald reagan and the oth
in the campaign of chris christie. >> i don't endorse many politicians, but chris christie is different. he's working with me to bring jobs back to the cities. >> that's shaquille o'neal in a new christie campaign ad, praising the governor's jobs and education programs, and calls him, quote, a great man. christie is widely expected to win a second term. >>> just ahead, we'll follow up on a huge issue in new jersey -- recoveriers exactly a year after superstorm sandy. did you know that if you enroll in a medicare part d plan where walmart is a preferred pharmacy, you could save up to 80% on your co-pays over other pharmacies? this could lower your prescription co-pays to as low as a dollar so you can enjoy the things that really matter. and now that we're a preferred pharmacy for many national plans, it's never been easier to save. choose any plan where walmart is a preferred pharmacy provider by logging on to walmart.com/rxplans now through december 7th. save money. live better. walmart. even when we cross our t's and dot our i's, we still run into problems. that's why liberty mutual insura

win the nomination. >> you tell people what you believe in. >> governor christie model. >> immigration reform, he needed to say the same thing on english language radio station, spanish radio station. i've said it before. i'll say it again, nobody ever stops you when you are going 90 miles an hour, if he was going 90 miles an hour in support of immigration reform and very aggressive about it, actually attacking poem that opposed him. even in his own party, you know, quoting the "wall street journal," quoting other small government conservatives, he would have done well, but -- >> it would have been hard now, he would have benefitted tremendously. >> he would have benefitted down the road and been a rock rib conservative. >> can he still recover here? >> it will be hard to recover before 2016, especially since rand paul is doing it right. >> you want to see strength. look at governor christie, he's going to win that race by 30 points. people are going to look, it's a democratic state. here's a guy who is pretty darn conservative who can wrap up a vick try like that. being strong over th
some very good things. chris christie has certainly stepped up to the plate. the houses and community faith-based organizations that have been excluded in very large measure from getting any kind of fema help, they can get it from the sba or others, it's far less. saint rose in belmar, the building itself is a community action oriented building where they help the poor and homeless, all kinds of great work. they have been told you're not going to get it. the upper floors not affected by sandy are used by other things. that's a discriminatory policy. >> this past the hour, blocked in the senate. >> nonprofit disaster assistance passed 354-72, absolutely bipartisan, liberal, mod ral, conservative, everybody joining in and saying it's discriminatory. >> does not violate church and state. >> sba would be equally violative of separation of church and state. you know, when you have a hurricane or natural disaster or home mid one like oklahoma city. in oklahoma city churches were repaired. damage is damage. when something happens there's a neutral basis applied and that's the key phrase. if
really did all they could do to avoid moving into bankruptcy. christy mcdonald of detroit public television was in the courtroom today, and joins me now. welcome to you. but first remind us briefly the issue in this trial is whether the city can go ahead with its bankruptcy process, right? >> right. it has to prove that it's insolvent and that's what they are seek for bankruptcy protection right now. but what the opposition wants to know is did detroit actually negotiate in good faith before they filed for bankruptcy. >> brown: all right, so today you heard from governor rick snyder, what were the lawyers opposing him arguing and what was his response? >> well, jeffrey, it was far from the typical day at bankruptcy court. as you he leaded to this really underscores the historic nature of what detroit is going through when you have a sitting governor taking the stand in bankruptcy court talking for three hours today about the decision-making process and how he actually got to the point when detroit filed for bankruptcy chapter 9 protection back in july. today the attorneys were tr
christie, the republican governor, looks like he's going to coast to re-election, but there's an interesting ballot initiative that would imbed, raise the minimum wage and imbed future minimum wage increases into the constitution. >> right, into the state constitution. it's knocking the state minimum wage about a point above, going to about 8.5%. $8.25 an hour. this is really when you look at young people and their struggle to find work in new jersey, this is about the last thing we need. our state has a higher unemployment rate than any of our neighbors. pennsylvania, new york, delaware. and it really is above the national average. so now you're taking that group of people that wants to come into the workforce, that wants skills, that wants to show they can do a job, and you're making it that much harder for small businesses to hire them. >> let's turn to virginia. which i believe is your state. and you've got that governor's race. and the republican, ken cuccinelli, looks like he might have a chance. he's moving closer to terry mcauliffe, the democrat, who's at a comfortab
